Chandigarh, June 17 (UNI) Haryana has witnessed a sudden and unprecedented demand for polytechnic education for the session 2006-07 as the number of candidates who appeared for the entrance test for admission to diploma courses was almost double than the last academic session.
While stating this here yesterday, a spokesman of the Technical Education Department said the unprecedented demand for diploma education was because of the large scale campus placements in the polytechnics. Companies like Maruti Udyog Limited, Jai Bharat, WIPRO, TCS, HCL, Jindal Industries visited the Regional Placement Centres of the department at Government Polytechnic, Nilokheri, Government Polytechnic, Hisar, and Government Polytechnic for Women, Faridabad, he said. The spokesman said the enhanced placement was consequent to the increased quality inputs in the shape of better faculty, improved physical resources and revamping of delivery system. It was only possible through constant guidance given by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who has laid stress on professional Education to over-come the problem of unemployment in the state. He said as against total available 9705 seats for diploma in various disciplines like engineering, pharmacy and management in 43 government or aided or private polytechnics, about 60,000 applications were received for the entrance test held on June 11.
