GATE 2014: A new paper has been introduced in the exam

A new paper ‘Ecology and Evolution’ has been introduced in GATE 2014. This takes the total number of papers in GATE to be 22. All the 22 papers will be conducted through an online Computer Based Test (CBT).

GATE 2014 is being conducted by IIT Kharagpur.



Like last year, this year too GATE 2014 will have both multiple choice questions (MCQs) and numerical answer type questions. For numerical answer type questions, the candidates need to enter a number as the answer using a virtual keypad.


The online application for GATE 2014 opens on 1 September. The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an entrance examination and scholarship test held by the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore.


The GATE 2014 examination will identify candidates for admissionto postgraduate programs in engineering, technology, architecture, science and related disciplines at the national level. On the basis of GATE scores, candidates may take admission into postgraduate engineering and sciences programs. The score may also be valid for admission to doctoral degree programs. Some public sector undertakings (PSUs) accept GATE scores for screening potential salaried employees.
