GATE is going to be Online for All Papers

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is going to be conducted online for all the 21 papers from 2014. This is the first time when all the papers of the exam will be held in the online mode.
GATE is a test of time and technical skills to assess a student's understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering. It is conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and the IITs. On the basis of GATE score, the students would get admission to M. Tech programs in engineering colleges and universities across the country.
GATE first went online in 2010 for only two papers — textile engineering and fiber science, and mining engineering.
The exam will be of three hours and comprise 65 questions. It will be aimed at assessing students’’ knowledge about fundamental engineering concepts and its implementation.
Students should focus on semester teaching, especially on understanding concepts and the application of engineering terms, if they want to do well in the exam. Solving previous year's question papers can also help in understanding the pattern and subsequently in scoring high.
Students are advised to work upon their section-wise performance as the exam will assess them on relative performance instead of following the conventional method of absolute marking system.
An objective type test with four answer-options for each question, the test has the provision of negative marking, deducting one-third of the mark for each wrong answer.
